Flowery Desert FullDay

El Desierto Florido is a weather phenomenon that occurs in the Atacama Desert, mainly in the Atacama Region, Chile.
It is the emergence of a wide variety of flowers between the months of  August and November, during years when rainfall is unusual about the normal range for the desert.
The rains germinate in early spring to many seeds, accompanied by the proliferation of insects, birds and wildlife. The event is mainly spread among Vallenar and Copiapo, both in coastal areas and in the valley.


Program and Route

  • 8:30: We headed to the city of Vallenar 146 kms distant, where we will observe the flora which is by the way.
  • 10:30: We went to huasco visiting the olive oil production to reach the village of Freirina where we take the Route 1 or coastal road toward the Llanos de Challe National Park.
  • 13:30: Lunch in the Park lunch consisting of gourmet delicacies, wines and pisco sour in camping sites that Conaf has.
  • 15:00: Visit the Caleta Carrizal Bajo 19th century mining town that still retains vestiges of the time, to quickly return visit to nearby streams that have flowers like lion paw or ear fox.
  • 17:30: We arrive to the streams near the village of Totoral where the highest expression of the flowering desert.
  • 19:00: We return to the Panamericana Norte Copiapo.
